"This image emerged because I was developing the floral blanket and carpet motifs and trying to find a new expression for this.
I ended up with a far-away, dreamy image."

A Persian miniature of King Darius and Herdsmen inspires the conceit of horse and figure.
"I’m trying to free up the tightness of the miniature with broad, very loose brushwork whilst giving the painting a simple geometry.
The horse blanket allows me to 'quarter' the image with a painting within a painting."
