Portfolio V (2D) Persian Horse ll
In the Persian Horse ll series, the tight Persian Horse motif is placed in a loosely painted landscape, often with the purpose of creating a very still image.
The decorated horse blanket is intended to concentrate the focus on a patch of floral detail in one small part of the painting, and in contrast to a freely painted landscape.
The mound and tree(s) are as important as the apparent subject; they are in dialogue with the animal, and are often the object of the painting's title.

Oil on canvas
80 cm high x 100 cm wide
The horse has stepped, unashamedly, out of a Persian miniature. The tree is painted in the style of Van Gogh, but is also of Persian garden extraction.
It owes much to that finely manicured tradition and somehow works in an impressionistic landscape.
