Portfolio V (2D) Dreamscapes
The images in Dreamscapes are largely concerned with pattern, and specifically patterns in textiles: a horse blanket or a coat or costume.
Sometimes the textile pattern becomes the fabric of a tree, which also has the effect of 'flattening' the image.

The figure stares out while her subconscious thoughts fall silently behind her.
The blanket, brocaded tree, garment and backdrop are all on one unreal, plain.
The painting is a patchwork of 'fabric' and the fabric of the painting is broken by a scattering of cut-out dreams.

A visit to a major Gauguin exhibition is reflected here in the treatment of the tree and choice of palette.
A Persian miniature of King Darius and Herdsmen inspires the conceit of horse and figure.
"I’m trying to free up the tightness of the miniature with broad, very loose brushwork whilst giving the painting a simple geometry.
The horse blanket allows me to 'quarter' the image with a painting within a painting."
